Ranking Records—The 10 Best LPs of 1984

I was surprised how easy it was for me to put together my fave records from 1984. However, I could not stop at just ten and had to list a dozen. It was an interesting year in music for sure. MTV reigned and two artists on my list became bonafide superstars after releasing multi-platinum smashes that year.

Let me know what you think and keep your comments coming. And please don’t forget to support my Music City Mike YouTube page by clicking the “Like” and “Subscribe” buttons below the video and by also sharing the link on your socials.

Be sure to look back at my Ranking Records and other related playlists for more videos if you liked this one. Thanks, and see you again soon!

  1. I have never heard of your #10 pick. I love R.E.M. but, Reckoning was my least fave. Learning to Crawl is a damn fine album. I had the cassette and wore it out. I’ve never heard of Style Council. Purple Rain was released a few weeks after I graduated high school and the film came out the next month. OH, my friends and I were crazy over both. Darling Nikki is pretty nasty, tho.

I agree with your #1 pick. It is an excellent album, another one I wore out in cassette.

I can’t argue with your selections- the only one I don’t have is the Lloyd Cole one- going to have to check that one out! A couple other favorites from the year for me- The Smiths The Smiths, Husker Du- Zen Arcade and U2- The Unforgettable Fire.
