I am just crazy about Elizabeth Cook in so many ways. In addition to loving her music, she’s just so dang funny and cute. We also share the common love of accounting! Did you know that in the late 90s she worked as an accountant in the Nashville office of PricewaterhouseCoopers?

Since coming to town, she has made East Nashville proud by releasing six awesome records including the 2010 Americana Awards-nominated “Welder.” “El Camino” off that record certainly rates as one of the best songs to come out of Music City since Y2K. Her snappy ode to her creepy boyfriend’s “funky-ass car” is as well-crafted as a song could be.

You can hear Elizabeth deejay her “Apron Strings” morning show on Sirius XM’s Outlaw Country Channel where she plays everything from Waylon to Molly Hatchet! And for some real laughs, visit YouTube and watch how she became one of David Letterman’s favorite all-time guests.

Musically, in addition to her usual fare, I have had the pleasure of seeing her in a gospel mode sharing the stage with the McCrary Sisters and the Fairfield Four and also serving duty as a member of Todd Snider’s raucous Eastside Bulldogs. You can see her perform at 3^rd and Lindsley on Friday November 17^th.

So, as I expected, Elizbeth’s answers were short and sassy. I wouldn’t have wanted them any other way. But, I’m really looking forward to the day we can get together to discuss accounting!

Where are you from originally, when did you move to Nashville and why?

I’m from a sink hole in Central Florida. I moved to Nashville after the Depression to get out of the sand.

What are the first and the last records you bought, and where did you buy them? Were they CD, vinyl or digital?

The first record I bought was on vinyl and it was a compilation record called Neon Nights that had both “Jack and Diane” and “Super Freak” on it, so I was covered.  I don’t remember the last record I bought.  My nails are wet so it’s kinda hard to type this.

First and last live concerts that you’ve seen?

The first concert I ever saw was Madonna on the Like a Virgin tour.  The Beastie Boys opened.  I don’t remember the last concert I saw.

Whose star should be added to the Music City Walk of Fame?

Probably mine.

Where do you go in Nashville for coffee and pizza?

I would never tell you that.

What’s your favorite record to ever come out of Nashville?

East Nashville Skyline and the other one.

Where’s the best place to eat late night after a show?

The nearest truck stop.
