I was heartbroken when I heard that Hatch Show Print was leaving its gritty but classic location on Lower Broadway for the swanky confines of the new Omni Hotel / Country Music Hall of Fame complex. (Ownership of Hatch has resided with the Hall of Fame since 1992.) However, at the grand opening of the new space, I was relieved to learn that they actually have had several locations since 1879, and that the new layout includes a recreation of their original work space.
Hatch Show Print is a true Music City treasure that produces iconic letterpress posters for concerts and events all around the country. Their local efforts famously include limited run posters for just about every show staged at the Ryman Auditorium which features a Hatch gallery at their website. Event posters, like those at the Ryman, usually sell out quickly and become instant collector’s items.
A visit to the Hatch shop does not require Hall of Fame admission. There you can watch the tools of their trade in action as well as see an interesting assortment of their work. Their extensive gift shop offers Hatch souvenirs plus a selection of posters for purchase. Hatch collectors will want to frequent the shop to browse through the leftovers of recent event prints. They also run daily tours that even let you print your own poster! (Book here.)
Here is a photo of their previous location on Lower Broadway. That original neon sign has made its way over to the street entrance of the new site.
