R.I.P.: Rubin “Hurricane” Carter

Today’s news reports the passing of controversial New Jersey middleweight boxer Rubin “Hurricane” Carter of prostate cancer at age 76. Twice-convicted and eventually freed after serving 20 years in prison, there remains mystery and confusion about what really happened one fateful night in New Jersey in 1966.

Regardless of what you believe about the horrible triple murder, the story of the Hurricane served as the basis for one of Bob Dylan’s greatest songs. His co-write with Jacques Levy first appeared as a two-part 8-minute single in 1975 on Columbia, and later led off his Desire record.

Here’s the US single and its great picture sleeve.
