Ranking Records: The 10 Best Records of 1971

Oh my gosh! What another great year for music that again makes a list difficult to put together. But anyways, here’s what I liked from 1971. Again, this comes from my personal taste more than it does critical worthiness! As always, please tell me what records you enjoyed from this year.

I think the ones you left off of your list- I like more than the ones you put on. Usually I am pretty close in agreement with you. But I agree with you totally on the John Prine-Who and Stones albums at the top.

  2. Good deal of overlap between your list and my 10 favorite albums from ’71. In no particular order:
    • ZZ Top – ZZ Top’s First Album
    • Carole King – Tapestry
    • Jethro Tull – Aqualung
    • The Doors – L.A. Woman
    • The Rolling Stones – Sticky Fingers
    • Rod Stewart – Every Picture Tells a Story
    • The Who – Who’s Next
    • Pink Floyd – Meddle
    • Led Zeppelin – Led Zeppelin IV
    • Yes – Fragile

If I would need to rank, the Stones, The Who, Zep and Carole King would be among my top 4.
