R.I.P.: Guy Clark

It is being reported on Twitter by his old friend Rodney Crowell that the great singer-songwriter Guy Clark has died at age 74. One of the many Texan singer-songwriters who eventually made their way to Music City, Clark was mentor to many younger artists like Crowell and Steve Earle.

After I moved to Nashville in 1998, Guy and his late wife Susanna were the first celebs I ever saw out in the in wild. One weekday afternoon at lunch, I spotted the couple at the old Wild Oats supermarket in Green Hills shopping for a water purifier.

Here is a photo of him that I shot at Nashville’s Belcourt Theater on September 9, 2009.

Without getting killed or caught
I’d be down that road in a cloud of smoke
For some land that I ain’t bought bought bought

I’m sure these three guys are thinking about their old pal this morning.
